Much of Loudoun County's former dairy and farm land has been converted into Virginia vineyards
and other non-traditional product farms. This means that new products are being produced from
the land. Earlier in our history, crops, grain and dairy products made their way into the metropolitan
markets. Today much of the former farm land in Loudoun County has been developed into residential
housing tracts and converted into more than twenty-five world renown vineyards, equine farms,
fruit orchards, and nursery stock farms. Dulles International Airport was built on what was the small
rural village of Willard and surrounding farmland in eastern Loudoun County.
